"For you brethren have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this "You shall love your neighbour as yourself." Galatians 5:13-14
John says in his gospel that Jesus loves us as the Father "has loved" Him. The best translation for "has loved" is a love that is perfect and complete. That means that I can do nothing to earn more love from God.
My love for God is the faith in His love for me. That’s what it means to live by faith. His free gift to me is the abundant life where the joy of the Lord is my strength. By obeying His commands, I am loving Him—not to prove or earn love, but to experience what His love has done for me. The moment I choose obedience, I am empowered by grace in the Holy Spirit. His commandments are the keys to the promised land and to the abundant life He wants for me! When I obey them, I become free in the truest sense; free of selfishness, bitterness, resentment, fear, anger, unbelief, insecurity, lust and all the other sins that are destructive to my heart and my relationships.
I bless and thank God for working in me to experience this freedom.
